Laal Maas (Mutton in red chilli masala)

Goat meat is my favourite. Especially for Indian recipes. I usually make my moms mutton recipe which is a combination of Muslim gravy and mutton masala. Thought of experimenting with an new recipe which would be simple. Cooked this laal Maas recipe which came out very very well indeed. It’s quite easy and very non intimidating as a recipe.

What do you need?
  1. 500gm curry mutton with bone(cos bone has the most flavour)
  2. 8 red chillies dry
  3. Cumin 1 tbspoon
  4. Mustard oil - 3 tbspoon
  5. Coriander seeds 1 tbspoon
  6. Curd - 4 tbspoon
  7. Ginger garlic paste - 3 tbspoon
  8. 2 onions finely chopped
  9. Salt
  10. Coriander leaves
What you need to do?

  1. Dry Roast the red chillies, cumin powder and coriander seeds in a pan. Let it cool and grind it to make a fine powder
  2. In a cooker add mustard oil followed by the ginger garlic paste, roast it till it’s brown and no raw ginger smell is there
  3. Add the mutton and mix it with the oil and ginger garlic paste till it’s covered completely
  4. Add the powder created in step1
  5. Cover all the pieces of mutton with the powder  and let it cook for 2 mins and then add onions.
  6. Cook the content in pan till onion starts becoming cooked and brown in colour
  7. Add salt for taste, curd and water and Cook the mutton either by covering it and stirring it from time to time or pressure Cook it.
  8. Boil the gravy for the required consistency.
  9. Add chopped coriander before serving
Eat with rice or chapati ( I had mine with rice)
